Don’t Buy New Power Tools – Fix Your Old Ones
Posted on July 8, 2010 by Dana
In this day and age of needing to do your part in saving the planet, many craftsmen have started going green. They do this simply by choosing to keep their old power tools rather than ditch them and buy new ones. This is not quite as difficult as it may sound.
First and foremost, if you provide good maintenance for the power tools you have now, they will stay in good shape for years to come. However, there will come a time when you will think there’s just nothing else you can get from an old power tool. If that’s your case, here’s a good idea.

Repairing your power tools is one of the smartest things you can do for both the environment and your wallet. Every power tool that is not hauled off to a landfill keeps down the amount of carbon dioxide that goes into the Earth’s atmosphere.
That, alone, would be enough of a positive for using refurbished power tools. But when you add in how much money you will save by not rushing out to buy a brand new one, it makes repairing them look all the more attractive.
If you’re someone who doesn’t feel confident enough to make your own repairs on your power tools, start out with simple things such as replacement parts. All you need to do is buy the replacement parts and get someone to help you out if you find you need that extra hand.
Usually, it only takes a tutorial of some sort from either a video or article to walk you through it. Soon, you will have all the confidence you need to repair your old power tools, not to mention having the extra money you saved in your bank account.
